The problem
57% of SAIT students report missing assignment deadlines
SAIT students rely on a Learning Management System called "Brightspace" to manage coursework.
The mobile version however, "Pulse", doesn't function as a management and assignment tracking tool, but rather a document viewer for class materials. This results in students missing deadlines and being forced to rely on third party external applications to keep track of their coursework.
Rather than trying to scrap pieces of the "Pulse" app into a redesign, it became clear to us throughout the beginning that users wanted the product to turn into a task management app instead
research - uNDERSTANDING WHAT USERS ARE LOOKNG FOR
Since we knew that students wanted a task management app, we looked into the which ones they use and what makes them so useful
In our survey, we had asked what apps they use for school. Noting the specific differences between the submitted apps and the Pulse app allowed for us to create a list of core features to focus on for this initial MVP of the project.

Wireframing, Designing and User Testing
Along the way, we had to make changes to some of the smaller interactions after user testing
After our initial prototype was shipped out for users for testing, there were some confusion from users about certain interactions. While our main pages didn’t undergo changes (dashboard, calendar, and checklist), our smaller interactions such as making custom reminders and adding our own assignment details had to be revised.
The rESULTS
From the start, we were set on improving the lives of students by designing an entirely new app that tackled their needs when the original app couldn't

We designed a homepage with a dashboard to show students what deadlines are coming up
Created customization options to tailor to the needs of the student

Added the ability to make your own checklist and calendar without the need of external apps
Things to Consider
What should we consider for the future?
Create contingency plans due to possible outage of the third party web service that is necessary for Pocketspace login system to work
According to users, we should consider expanding customization options into backgrounds and fonts for further personalization
